Treasures in Trust

This site is funded by The New Opportunities Fund as part of a nation wide project creating 150 individual heritage related web sites.

Treasures in Trust has allowed Bolton Museums, Art Gallery and Aquarium, Bury Museum and Art Gallery and Bolton Archives and Local Studies Unit to develop a valuable digital resource.

Among the benefits for the public and the collections are:

• Digital images are incredibly versatile and can be easily used in any number of electronic applications.
• Access to digital images reduces the need for staff to physically view fragile objects and aids preservation work.
• The web site allows the collections to be viewed 24 hours a day anywhere in the world.
• The Internet provides access to many items that are rarely viewed in the galleries.

The value of this project is in the increased access that the public gains to their national heritage.
